Budget Holidays To Majorca
Majorca, Spain.
Majorca is more than just a beach destination.
It’s hard to deny that Majorca is often seen as simply a party island or a haven for beach bums, but this isn’t all this stunning island has going for it.
In recent years, Majorca’s natural beauty has become increasingly alluring to green travelers looking for budget holidays to Majorca that literally won’t cost the earth.
Majorca has a lot to offer the green traveler, from nature parks to breathtaking mountain ranges to rustic farming villages and pine forests.
Although many travelers would argue that the beaches are the most beautiful part of the island, those who stray away from the coastline have many treats awaiting them inland.
Rural Majorca is very different from touristy towns such as Magaluf and Palma. Away from the noise and bustle of the cities, Majorca is quite a different place.
The sleepy farming villages with their ochre and cream houses dot the landscape. Stretches of wide-open farmland look like they’re straight off of a postcard.
With roads that were designed for walkers, horses and carts, rural Majorca is an ideal location for cycling or walking excursions.
They allow you to explore the island while keeping your carbon footprint to a minimum.
Trekking on horseback is also popular on the island and allows you to travel greener between towns.
Majorca has a number of beautiful nature resorts, parks and gardens, but if you’d prefer to see wildlife in its natural habit you could try bird watching.
Puerto Pollensa is a well-known base for bird watching as many migratory birds stop to rest on the island en route between Europe and Africa during the migratory seasons of spring and autumn.
Unlike most Mediterranean islands which are dry and unattractive to many birds, the marsh of Albufera brings birds including ducks, herons, terns and waders flocking to the island.
Summer is the peak season for tourism on Majorca, but thanks to the island’s mild autumn and winter seasons, this is a destination you can enjoy all year-round.
Some eco-friendly activities, including hiking, cycling and trekking, are better undertaken during these seasons than the hot summers.
