What is the ultimate winter camping trip?  Some adventurers would say it’s camping Antarctica.

If you’re interested in camping Antarctica, adventure travel company Kensington Tours has launched a new Antarctica trip.

It’s called Kensington Antarctica, a luxury eco-camp offering forays into the untouched Antarctica’s interior.

Kensington Tours has signed an agreement with White Desert, which opened the camp in 2007, to take on North American sales and marketing and introduce the camp to new and wider markets.

Says Jeff Willner, founder of Kensington Tours and a fellow of the Royal Geographic Society:

“Once the exclusive domain of explorers and scientists, Kensington Antarctica now gives amateur explorers the opportunity to see landscapes and wildlife at their most untouched with personalized service from experienced professionals and the comfort of a luxury camp.”

Perched on top of a 200 foot icefall, the company says the sustainable camp has a zero impact policy.  There is carbon offsetting for flights; solar & wind power; locally sourced food and complete waste removal.

The African safari-style camp offers heated tents, all modern conveniences and gourmet meals.  The main living area is two large, dome tents which house a dining room, library, kitchen and communications area. There are only six sleeping tents, each shared by two clients.

Available bespoke adventures include kite skiing;  rock and ice climbing; abseiling into crevasses and wildlife viewing of a 12,000-strong colony of fearless Emperor Penguins and their hatchlings.
