Pet behavior and lifestyle product company PetSafe has launched Bark for Your Park, a U.S. national contest which will award $100,000 toward building a local dog park to a U.S. city or town.

Dog parks not only offer pet parents spots for outdoor pet recreation and expand green park space, they also strengthen the sense of community among local pet owners,” says Randy Boyd, president and CEO of PetSafe.

“In our hometown of Knoxville, Tenn., we’ve worked with the community to build several dog parks, and we’ve seen first-hand the positive impact they’ve had.”

Community support will drive the “Bark for Your Park” contest, say organizers.

Citizens and pet owners can participate by visiting www.barkforyourpark.com to log their support for their city through June 1, 2011.

When choosing the finalists, PetSafe will also look at the availability of land and resources and community impact of a dog park.

PetSafe will choose 15 finalists and the public will “bark for your park” or vote for their favorite.

The winner community will have the most votes and receive $100,000 toward building a PetSafe dog park.

The company will announce the winner in August.

PetSafe recommends community members partner with local officials, animal shelters and welfare groups, animal professionals and pet owners to show the city’s commitment to its pet community.
