Seeking out family adventure travel ideas? Then you’ll want to check out the summer issue of National Geographic Traveller – Family.

Now on UK newsstands, the magazine focuses on family adventures and travel tips on booking summer holidays. The National Geographic Traveller is published twice a year.

“There’s never been a better time to introduce families to authentic travel experiences,” Maria Pieri, editor and editorial director.

“Planning an adventure with the kids can simply mean staying close to home — from the wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands to YHA breaks in Wales. Or it can involve looking further afield — perhaps a cycle trip to the moon (Iceland in this case!), diving in the Red Sea, riding a donkey in Spanish Castille, or kayaking in Croatia.”

Highlights of the magazine’s summer issue include:

Cover story: An Awfully Big Adventure: active breaks with all the family from Amazon to Scotland;

Safari in South Africa;

Self-drive in France;

Dive into the Indian Ocean with kids;

Self-catering options for Italy and

City guides (Amsterdam, Boston and London) and

Pull-out kids’ guides.

Fancy a Jubilee seaside break? You’re not alone. Many Brits will be celebrating the long Jubilee weekend in their own way.

If you’re dreaming of a British seaside weekend with family, look at staying at a Haven park. Across the UK, some 23 parks have touring and camping areas available.

Beside watching Jubilee celebrations on big screens, Haven guests will be encouraged to get involved by making Jubilee hats and flags in arts and crafts, dressing up and attending ‘Polly’s right Royal Fancy dress ball.

Across the Haven parks, there are Jubilee weekend alternatives including:

Quay West, South Wales: Walking the Jubilee nature trail;

Devon Cliffs holiday park, Exmouth: Joining the Wildlife Detectives and checking out the bug hotel “Bug-ingham Palace” and

Marton Mere near Blackpool: Stay in a Royally-named residence.

Based on standard accommodation, Haven Jubilee breaks start from £259 for three nights on June 1, 2012 for a family of up to six at selected parks.

Canada is a stunning outdoor travel destination.

We’ve traveled Canada, coast-to-coast, and understand why the country’s West Coast and the province of British Columbia is a popular destination for outdoor lovers.

In this Pacific Northwest place, the Sunshine Coast is a beautiful, 160-kilometre stretch of waterfront between Howe Sound and Desolation Sound. Travelers can reach the Sunshine Coast by a 40-minute ferry ride from West Vancouver.

If you’re looking at planning a West Coast Canada holiday, you’ll likely be inspired by Howard White, humorist, coastal and Sunshine Coast expert. In this revised edition of his book, The Sunshine Coast: From Gibsons To Powell River (above), he takes his readers on a guided tour from Gibsons to Powell River, the largest community in the region.

The book’s first edition was published back in 1996. In the revised edition, the book’s text has been updated. Photographers Dean van’t Schip and Keith Thirkell have also contributed their evocative photography of Canada’s coastal life.

Highlights of this Sunshine Coast book include:

Roberts Creek, where the name Sunshine Coast originates;

Sechelt, named for the Sechelt Nation who had occupied much of the Sunshine Coast territory;

Pender Harbour, a popular local fishing spot and

Princess Louisa Inlet and its canyon-like landscape.

This Sunshine Coast book of 150+ color photographs also features paintings by local artists; poems by local poets; tales by local characters; miracles by Sechelt medicine men, weather tips and other fascinating facts and figures.

Laura Svenson wrote this guest post about greening your family holiday. She is a lover of traveling, trees and cakes.

Want to green your family holiday? Well, a camping holiday is probably the greenest you can get with a traditional holiday. Still, there are plenty of extra things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint.

One area in which you can make carbon savings is in how you reach your holiday park. Providing your load isn’t too heavy, it’s possible to get to wherever you are camping in France via the Eurostar train if you’re living in the UK.

Of course, the Eurostar isn’t the only transport link bridging the UK and France. It’s possible to get to France by sea. In fact, this may be a better option if you do have a lot of luggage and camping equipment. Likewise, those traveling with children may prefer to break up their journey by traveling by boat – especially if it’s the kids’ first time at sea. They may very well see it as a bit of an adventure! Traveling by boat or train when going camping in France cuts carbon emissions, so if you’re keen to go green, check it out!

It’s also possible to stay green while on the campsite itself. Britain has been recycling for a few years now, and while each plot at your site may not have the different-colored bins you’re used to, you can still split your rubbish into plastics, glass and paper using cardboard boxes. Drop it off into a recycling depository next time you visit your local supermarket.

One last way in which you can cut down your carbon emissions while camping in France is by considering the food you’re eating. Eating fast food is quick and easy, of course, but the damage done to the environment by the plastics and litter can have long-lasting effects. Consider cooking for your party; it’s cheaper and easier.

Embarking on a family holiday in France with one eye on the environment may sound like a tough task. Take a few precautions and it can be done without affecting the quality of your family trip away.
